Will I be able to watch Freeview channels in standard definition without Freeview HD?
Your existing Freeview equipment will continue to receive the existing Freeview standard definition channels. You only need updated equipment if you want to watch the new Freeview HD channels

The standby light is not lit. What should I do?
Check that the mains lead is plugged in and the power is switched on, also that the fuse in the mains lead plug has not blown.
I get square blocks in the picture on the TV screen when watching Freeview channels. Why does this happen?
The Freeview signal may be poor. Check that you live in an area where you can receive Freeview channels by entering your Postcode at www.freeview.co.uk or by sending your Postcode in a text message to 83331. I cannot get a picture or any sound. What should I do?
1. Your TV may be set to the wrong output. If you have used a Scart or HDMI cable to connect your set-top box make sure that your TV is also set to Scart or HDMI.
2. Switch to another channel, it may be a problem with the channel you are watching.
3. Your set-top box may be tuned to a digital teletext service (red button service). Change to a different channel such as BBC1 to see if the picture and sound is restored.
I get a message on screen saying the channel is 'encrypted', what does this mean?
This indicates an encrypted channel which for access requires payment of a subscription fee to the channel operators. Until this is paid the signal to your set-top box is blocked.
My set-top box is not responding to the remote control. What should I do?
Check 1. The set-top box is not switched off and that you are pointing the remote control properly towards the front.
2. Nothing is in front of the set-top box blocking the signal.
3. You have put the batteries in the remote control the correct way round and that new batteries are not required.

I see the message 'media not alive' when trying to record. What does this mean?
There is a problem with the hard drive in your Freeview+ recorder. Try re-formatting the hard drive to see if this solves the problem. If this does not work, contact our Helpline T: 0871 230 1777 for help.
The TV screen is blank following an installation - what should I do?
1. Check that all the cables are securely connected to your set-top box.
2. Make sure your TV is switched on and that the correct input is selected.
3. Run the first time installation again. The User Guide supplied with your set-top box will show you how to do a first time installation. If none of these suggestions work, please contact our Helpline T: 0871 230 1777.
How do I do a first time installation?
When you plug your set-top box in for the first time it will need to complete a first time installation. Follow the instructions on screen to install your set top box. The User Guide and Quick Start Guide supplied with your set top box will show you how to install your set-top box. Can I watch Freeview channels with only the RF cable connected between the TV and the receiver?
No. To watch Freeview channels you must use the TV Scart connection. The RF cable connection lets you watch your existing (non-digital) TV channels when the receiver is turned off for example.
I see a message on the screen saying 'No Signal', what does that mean?
Check 1.The aerial is securely connected to your set-top box.
2. The aerial is not damaged or pointing in the wrong direction. Contact a local aerial installer who will be able to check it for you.
3. You are an area which can receive a digital TV signal. You can check that you can receive Freeview channels by entering your Postcode at www.freeview.co.uk or by sending your Postcode in a text message to 83331. How do I connect my set-top box to a DVD recorder?
Your User Guide will show you which cables you need. If your Freeview set-top box has only one scart socket it is not possible to record to a DVD recorder. If your set-top box has two scart sockets the DVD recorder should be connected to the socket labelled 'VCR' or 'AUX'.
Can I record two programmes at the same time?
Yes, with a Freeview+ recorder you can record two programmes at once. Simply choose your programmes from the electronic programme guide and press the record button on your remote control. If you are recording two programmes at the same time you will either need to watch one of them or a previously recorded programme.
Can I record from my Freeview set-top box to a Video or DVD recorder?
Your User Guide will show you which cables you need. If your Freeview receiver has only one scart socket it is not possible to record to a VCR. If your set-top box has two scart sockets the Video or DVD recorder should be connected to the socket labelled 'VCR' or 'AUX'.
How do I stop a recording?
To stop a recording at any time press the stop button on your remote control.
Do I have to wait for the programme to finish recording before I can start to watch it?
No, you can select the programme from the Library and start to watch it whilst it is still recording.
Can I record subtitles and audio description?
Yes. If the programme that you are recording has subtitles or audio description available they are recorded at the same time. If you want the subtitles to appear when playing back your recording, press the 'SUB' button on your remote control. If you want to hear audio description press the 'AD' button on your remote control.
I can't record a programme while watching another programme. What is wrong?
A Freeview+ recorder can record up to two programmes at the same time, but you must be watching one of the programmes. Some Freeview+ recorders such as GDB1225DTR need a short cable connected between the first and second tuner. If you have A GDDB1225DTR refer to the Quick Start Guide and ensure this short cable has been fitted.
